SAEE Student Awards

The SAEE Student Award is sponsored by VSG (Verband der Schweizerischen Gasindustrie) and is open to all students of ETHZ / EPFL, Swiss Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences (MA and PhD level) who complete (i.e., hand in) their thesis by the end of respective year and who are SAEE members at the time of submitting their entry at the SAEE.

The prizes (CHF 5’000 in total) will be granted to the most outstanding theses or research papers on energy economics and policy/polity/politics. The winner of the main prize is sponsored to attend the IAEE European Conference.

The submission should include the whole thesis in the case of master students, and one anomysized chapter of the dissertation for PhDs.

Please add a short letter of recommendation by your tutor, outlining why the submission should be considered for this award.

Oliver Kalsbach, ETH Zürich, for „Pricing carbon in a multi-sector economy with social discounting“
and
Matthias van den Heuvel, EPFL, for „The role of Venture Capital and Governments in Clean Energy: Lessons from the First Cleantech Bubble“

  • Mr Beaumont Schoeman, University of Basel, Faculty of Business and Economics (Prof. Beat Hintermann), for his PhD chapter: „Pigovian Mobility Pricing in Practice“
  • Mr Ali Darudi, University of Basel, Faculty of Business and Economics (Prof. Hannes Weigt), for his PhD chapter: „Auctions for Renewables: Does the Choice of Remuneration Scheme Matter?“

  • Ms Juliette Kettler, University of St. Gallen, wins First Prize for her Master Thesis: „Going Green – A Strategic Analysis of Swiss International Air Lines Towards Full Environmental Sustainability“
  • Ms Antonia Walter, ETH Zürich and RWTH Aachen, for her Master Thesis: „A model-based analysis of 1.5C-compliant policies for the European automotive sector“
  • Mr Florian Egli, ETH Zürich, for his Doctoral Thesis: „A dynamic analysis of financing conditions for renewable energy technologies“
  • Mr Jonas Savelsberg, University of St Gallen, for his Doctoral Thesis: „The European Electricity Market in Transition“
